Services

Every service explained: what it covers, the symptoms it fixes and what’s involved. Quotes are written, itemised and specific to your car.
Full and Interim Servicing

Full and Interim Servicing

A full car service covers engine oil and filter, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter where fitted, spark plugs on petrol engines, brake fluid testing, a 40-point safety inspection and a written report. An interim service between full services keeps oil and safety items in check for high-mileage drivers. Every service follows the manufacturer’s schedule, so a warranty on a newer car stays intact, and the digital or paper service record is updated.

Brakes

Brake repair is the most common job in the network: brake pads, brake discs, calipers, handbrake cables, brake hoses and ABS sensor faults. A grinding noise, a soft pedal, a pull to one side under braking or a brake warning light are the usual signs. Pads and discs are inspected together and only replaced together when the discs are actually below their minimum thickness.

Clutch and Gearbox

Clutch and Gearbox

Clutch replacement is quoted by exact vehicle because the job varies so much between makes. A slipping clutch, a high biting point, a heavy or juddering pedal or difficulty selecting gears are the signs. Dual-mass flywheels are inspected during the job and replaced only if they’ve reached their wear limit. Manual gearbox repairs, selector cables and clutch hydraulics are covered too.

Timing Belts and Chains

Timing belt replacement is due by kilometres or by age, whichever comes first. The belt, tensioner and idlers are replaced as a kit and, on most engines, the water pump at the same time because the labour overlaps. Timing chain problems on engines with known issues are diagnosed by listening for cold-start rattle and checking chain stretch with the correct diagnostic tools.

Diagnostics

Diagnostics

Car diagnostics done properly means more than reading a fault code. Engine management lights, misfires, limp mode, DPF warnings, ABS and airbag lights and electrical faults are investigated with professional scan tools, live data and physical testing so the repair fixes the cause rather than the symptom. You get a written explanation of the fault codes and what they actually mean.

Nct Preparation and Fails

A pre-NCT check covers the items that fail most: headlight aim, tyre condition and tread, brake performance and imbalance, suspension play, emissions, wipers, washers and lights. NCT fail repairs are quoted from the fail sheet so you can book the retest with confidence. Most retest items are minor and quick to put right.

Suspension and Steering

Suspension and Steering

Suspension repair covers shock absorbers, coil springs, drop links, anti-roll bar bushes, wishbones, ball joints, track rod ends and wheel alignment. Knocking over bumps, a car that wanders or pulls, uneven tyre wear and a floaty ride are the symptoms. Four-wheel alignment is done after any steering or suspension geometry change.

Exhaust and Emissions

Exhaust repair from back boxes and centre sections to catalytic converters and flexi pipes. DPF problems on diesels are assessed honestly: a forced regeneration or professional clean where the filter can be saved, replacement where it can’t. EGR valve and cooler faults, lambda sensors and emissions-related NCT fails are all covered.

Common Questions

How does the quote work?
Tell us your car details and what needs fixing. We’ll match you with a suitable independent garage that can provide a written quote explaining the recommended work and expected cost. You can review the quote before deciding whether to go ahead.
Your written quote sets out the agreed work and cost. If the garage discovers additional problems, it will explain the extra work and costs and get your approval before proceeding.
Using an independent garage does not automatically invalidate your manufacturer warranty. However, servicing and repairs must meet the manufacturer’s applicable requirements. If your car is still under warranty, let us know so the garage can take this into account.
Depending on the repair, the garage may recommend genuine manufacturer parts or suitable aftermarket alternatives. The available options and associated costs can be discussed with the garage before the work begins.
